Dr. John Kelly

Dr. John Kelly was the founder of Lake County Right to Life in 1972. Before the enactment of the Hyde Amendment, a measure barring federal funding of elective abortions, Dr. Kelly strongly objected to his tax dollars being used to fund the killing of children. He withheld the portion of his taxes he calculated to be the amount so used. As a final demonstration of his pro-life stand, he, along with his family of 14 children, moved to Ireland.

Upon enactment of the Hyde Amendment, Dr. Kelly and his family returned to this country. He now is retired and resides in Manassas, Virginia.

As a tribute to his courage and commitment, an award proudly bears his name, which is presented at the annual banquet.
